Weekly Sports Recap Feb. 2-8

Nate Slaughter, The Black Bear – The Missouri State Bears Men’s Basketball team lost a close game on Wednesday February 4th to Loyola Chicago 53-49. Unfortunately the men’s basketball team didn’t have their best performance for the bright lights on ESPN 2 and lost on the road to the Wichita Shockers 35-78.

The Lady Bears Basketball team lost to the Wichita State Shockers on Sunday February 8th by a score of 50-69. The Lady Bears stayed closed the majority of the game, but the Shockers went on 15-0 run within the final seven minutes to put the game away.

The Women’s Softball Team competed in the Louisiana Tech Invitational over the weekend and opened up with two big wins over Abilence Christian 4-3 and ULM by a score of 7-4. On the second day of the tournament they beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 5-2 but lost to the SIUE by a score of 3-1. On the final day of the tournament the Bears beat Louisiana Tech 9-2. The softball team is off to a good start this season with a record of 4 and 1.

Women’s Tennis team competed on February 7th and lost to the University of Missouri 7-0. The Tennis team played better on Sunday and beat IUPUI 6-1.

Missouri State Women’s Track team competed in the Missouri Tiger Invitational on February 6th. The track team continues to improve as a couple of Bears set personal records at the meet. The Bears finished fifth out of six at the Missouri Tiger Invitational.

The track and field team also competed in a two-day meet at the University of Nebraska February 6-7th. The Bears competed against schools from larger conferences like the SEC and Big 12 and showed a strong competitive edge.
