Chris Collins, The Black Bear – The Bears bounced back Saturday with a strong showing.
The Dave “Steckel” Era got off to a rough start with their week 1 loss to Memphis. The Missouri State Bears rebounded from a blowout loss against Memphis with a victory over Chadron state, 21-13.
The Bears were fueled by a powerful rushing attack. The Bears rushed for a combined 279 yards to give Steckel his first victory as the Bears Head coach.
Spearheaded by sophomore, Calen Crowder, who led the Bears with his career-best 164 yard effort.The Bears scored two of their three touchdowns on rushes.
Senior Running back Ryan Heaston scored on a seven yard scamper.
Freshman quarterback was a complete dual threat Saturday scoring on a 55 breakaway and also scoring on an 11 yard strike to wide receiver, Eric Christophel .
Overshadowed in the Bears great rushing display was how well the Bears defense performed. The Bears continuously stopped the Chadron State Eagles on third and fourth down.
Chadron State were also held to just 167 pass yards. The Bears stout defensive showing created two turnovers and held the Eagles offense to just one touchdown.
The Bears will travel to Arkansas State to take on the Red wolves on September 19 for their next game
