Missouri State University’s Sister Circle will be hosting their first annual “Black Girlz Rock” award ceremony this May.

Sister Circle is a women empowering organization seeking to promote unity among collegian women by overcoming barriers that women tend to face throughout their daily lives.

According to the members of Sister Circle, the award ceremony will spotlight nine black women that exemplify the essence of being strong and impactful.

“Black Girlz Rock” is modeled after the popular Black Girls Rock Award Show that was introduced on the BET network in 2010.

The categories that will be presented are the Rockstar, Scholar, Soul Sister, Living Legend, Athlete, and Social Humanitarian award.

Black Girlz Rock will be held on May 1, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. in the Missouri State’s Plaster Student Union Theatre.

Nominations for the awards will close on March 25, 2016.
