Myesha Smith, The Black Bear – Missouri State students are showcasing their talents throughout Missouri and plan to spread their message to the world after starting their own company.

Trap Scholar was established January 2016, with only three members. The company makes trendy clothing as well as host events and produces urban music.

Members of Trap Scholar, LLC are Charles Partee, artist and founder; Janiel Hatchett, artist; Jermaine Richmond; Terik Lewis, road manager; Calvin Lagrone, visual artist and stylist; and Stevie Williams is their manager.

All of these men are students at MSU where they also met. The company began in the works of last year and they have been making business moves since.

“We have a positive message that needs to be heard by the youth all around the world. We plan to bring more exposure to our unique style of both urban fashion and great music,” he said.

Partee, whose rapper name is “Champ”, is currently finishing his degree in Business Management and thought that experience would be the best teacher.

The members of the company believe that through power of knowledge and scholarship, a person can do anything that put their mind to. According to Partee, a trap scholar is willing to learn and better themselves.

“Education is the key to unlock the door of situations that were trapped in, ignorance causes failure,” Partee says.

Partee is also behind the music of the company and he writes his own lyrics, with help from producers around the state who conduct beats and sounds for him.

The group is currently in the process of creating their website and it will be launched in the next month.

Partee says their goal is to expand the brand as far as possible.

Merchandise will be available on their website with t-shirts at $20, sweatpants will be for $15 and hoodies will be $30. Stickers and bandanas will be free with purchases.

Trap Scholar, LLC will be in Sikeston, MO on April 16 with Partee performing his music hosted by Hatchett and all funds will be donated to a charity of their choice.

The company will make plans to expand on the MSU campus as well, as Partee has performed in Springfield at The Outland and in other cities like Columbia, St. Louis and Jefferson City.

“The trap scholar brand is around mainly to teach the youth to never settle for what is expected. Always let your mind grow and prosper,” Partee says.
